The ShengShou Gem 5x5 is a new stickerless budget 5x5 that has just hit the market. The Gem 5x5 is unique due to its 3-piece corner cap design and black plastic interior. It also features a shiny exterior, and the performance is fairly good right out of the box. Great for beginners and intermediate cubers!

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

I was amazed by this cube. Turns really well, although I wouldn't recommend this for speed cubers. It had a really satisfying solve. I was able to solve it pretty much like a 4x4 except for the centers. I highly recommend this cube if you don't plan on speed cubing it. It has a really nice feel to it and is also textured to make it look nice.

Exactly what you'd expect from Shengshou

This cube is overall great for the price, but there are a few problems I have with this cube. Out of the box it has a little bit of grease on it, and it is buttery smooth and is really quiet except for a little spring noise. All of the layers turn at a speed in between sluggish and quick, which makes it controllable. It also has a really nice texture on it that makes it satisfying to hold. However, all of the layers can only corner cut half a cubey, and reverse-corner cutting is non-existent. The puzzle tends to deform from its cube shape all the time, but reducing the tensions quite a bit helped a little with this. Since I had to loosen the tensions to help with that, it made the cube a little prone to popping when it was virtually impossible to pop before. This is very good for beginners and is amazing for the price.

Center is clear

The cube is great for a 5x5x5 at it's price. But I was expecting the inside plastic to be black. The 2x2x2-4x4x4 all have black centers. This cube has a black center on the box, but its center is a clear plastic. I love the look of black plastic centers. I feel a little mislead.

This is a great budget 5x5. it doesn't have the best corner cutting, but it turning extremely smoothly. I haven't set my up at all and it works great! I would suggest getting this if you are a beginner for 5x5.

Way to good as a budget 5x5

This 5x5 is a very quick 5x5 even as a budget, It didn't corner cut as good as other 5x5s on the market but after setting it up and messing with the tensions a little it performed almost as good as the Qiyi WuShuang, But this is still not as good as the Qiyi WuShuang.
